Summer HAF 25

Summer HAF 2025

Preston City Council has been allocated Department of Education funding from Lancashire County Council to provide a free holiday activity and food programmed aimed at children and young people on benefits related free school meals (FSM) and vulnerable children.

We’ve had an action packed week full of fun, friendship, and adventure during our HAF Safari Week! From outdoor games, tree climbing, and bug hunts to painting lions, making bracelets, and enjoying delicious meals like sausage, mash and beans – every moment was filled with laughter and learning. The children even helped prepare lunch, gaining hands-on life skills along the way. With endless energy, creativity, and smiles, it’s been a fantastic start, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!

Clay Making

This week has been bursting with creativity, energy, and celebration! We kicked things off by cheering on the England Women’s Football Team with football-themed biscuits, followed by delicious lunches like spaghetti, chicken wraps, and everyone’s favourite – fish fingers and waffles. The children explored their talents through music and theatre sessions, even performing scenes from The Wizard of Oz! Afternoons were filled with hands-on fun, from clay modelling and cloud dough to crafting colourful jellyfish and hama bead art. With scoot board races and plenty of outdoor games, it’s been non stop excitement and memory-making.

This week was packed with creativity and laughter. We painted outdoors, made friendship bracelets, and even created mosaic art with lasagne sheets! Our imaginations came alive building with sticks and mud, and we had a blast getting messy with cloud dough. We also tried new fruits and made a colourful fruit salad – delicious! Each day we kept active with The Body Coach program.

What a sunny, joy-filled week!

Over the past four week, Joe Wicks has had us on the move and loving every second! We’ve climbed a giant beanstalk, surfed the waves, levelled up like gaming pros and even transformed into superheroes!

A HUGE thank you to Joe Wicks for keeping us fit, healthy and smiling all the way through – what an adventure! Here’s to more fun, fitness and fantastic workouts!

Our children and young people have been so lucky to take part in three amazing sessions. These kinds of enrichment activities are so valuable, giving children the chance to try something new, build confidence, and shine in their way own way. Thank you so much to Andrew from Initiate Theatre for your friendly, profession approach and for making such a positive impact!

On Thursday 14th August 10-11am Lisa Gray from Preston City Council held a drop-in session on debt and budgeting for any parents whose children currently attend or have previously attended our Summer HAF Program at Sacred Heart!

This was a well attended drop-in session, so a big thank you to Lisa for the free financial advice!

On our last day for this years Summer HAF program we had a visit from The Ernest Cook Trust! Our bug hunters set out armed with nets, spades, and magnifying glasses, ready to uncover the tiny treasures of nature.

We learned all about where bugs live, what they eat, and how important they are to our planet. After exploring, we got our hands in the soil and planted our very own seeds!
