Village Agents are community-based practitioners who offer practical support to individuals and groups across rural areas. They help connect people with services, resources, and agencies to address a wide range of needs and challenges.
The role of a Village Agent might include, but is not limited to, supporting older adults, families, and caregivers who may not know where to begin when seeking help. Village Agents assist in locating relevant information and services. By collaborating with various agencies, they bring additional resources and expertise to ensure a holistic approach to rural wellbeing.
Our Service
Community Futures has been commissioned by Lancashire County Council to develop a new programme that explores how to better connect people living in rural areas with existing support and services. Our goal is to raise awareness of the available support and link people with the right help at the right time. As the programme evolves, we’ll continue working with local partners and communities to ensure it reflects the real needs of rural residents.
Our Village Agents service is free and confidential, designed to make sure that those who need a bit of extra care and practical support receive it when they need it most. Many people living in rural areas are unaware of the help available – Village Agents are here to bridge that gap and build more resilient, connected communities.
Our Village Agents
Village Agents are invaluable community assets, using their local knowledge and trusted connections to support early intervention and independent living. They help identify emerging needs and link residents to support before formal care is required.
In rural areas where distance, seasonal barriers, and limited networks can restrict access to services, Village Agents use their local insights to reduce isolation and prevent health issues from escalating.

Though still in it’s early stages, the programme has prioritised building on community strengths. Village Agents have engaged widely with local people – from hairdressers and cleaners to church wardens, publicans, and pharmacy staff, as well as leaders of grassroots groups and informal networks. Engagement has been intentionally broad, including gardeners, parish clerks, village hall coordinators, councillors, library staff, and small business owners, ensuring relationships are inclusive, representative, and built on trust.
