The ACRE Network exists to provide a voice for rural communities, and to help them achieve great things locally.
The network has been making a difference to rural communities since the 1920s. A century on, there are 38 organisations, plus ACRE nationally, working in concert to address rural issues and supporting a wide range of community-led initiatives that encourage a culture of volunteering and mutual aid, reduce social isolation and loneliness, increase the supply of affordable housing, boost the local economy, and reduce impact on the environment.

Village Halls Week 2025
The annual campaign is set to return in March on the theme of celebrating, encouraging and supporting the army of volunteers who run rural community buildings.
Village hall groups across the UK are being encouraged to put 17-23 March 2025 in their diaries by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE).
ACRE hopes to use the week as an opportunity to spotlight the efforts of volunteers who keep these important venues open for the benefit of local residents, groups, and rural businesses.
In England alone, it is estimated that over 80,000 people regularly volunteer their time with village halls, from those on management committees who oversee the day-to-day use of the building and it’s finances, to those who organise events and group activities for the benefit of the local community.
A facility has been set up on ACRE’s website that village hall groups can use to register their interest in the campaign, receive news and updates as well as resources to help them get involved.
This is an opportunity for you to thank a volunteer for their valued contribution to your village hall. Maybe to mark their long-term dedication to the hall charity, their contribution to a particular fundraising event or to recognise the energy and support the volunteer offers the committee. It could be a hirer of the hall who runs a regular coffee morning for the community.
Whatever the volunteer’s contribution please share it with everyone by using the Village Halls Week volunteer gallery.
